De-stressing Christmas

Matthew 11:28-30

‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’ so goes the song. And it is. I love it. There’s nothing like it. Celebrating Jesus, eating amazing food, spending time with family and friends, watching TV and taking time out to relax and kick back. It’s brilliant.

But if we are all completely honest, we’d also add stressful into that line for there’s no season quite like the Christmas season to raise that blood pressure and bring out the stress in us. From buying the ‘right’ gifts, spending time with ALL the family, decorating the house, navigating the shops…not to mention the financial pressures many people are under.

This Christmas, let’s remember the words of Jesus:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus’ gift to us all this Christmas is rest. He doesn’t make us do it, demand that we do it, even suggest it as a good idea; He GIVES it to us.

So, this Christmas, make a brew, sit down by the fire, reach under the tree and receive by faith the gift of rest that is found in Jesus; It’s free and it’s yours.

Happy Christmas friends!

  • What is ONE thing I can do TODAY to help alleviate that stress?
  • How can I keep coming to Jesus this Christmas? What will that look like, and how will I know when I’ve done it?
