Divine Disruption

Romans 8:28

“What if at the end of history the question Jesus asks us isn’t ‘did you stop sinning’ but instead ‘did you start living?” – Rich Villodas

  • Talk to God about where I am AT
  • Talk to God about where I am HEADING
  • Talk to God about what to LEAVE BEHIND

“We can focus on our future by recognising what we need to leave behind”

“The end game is the white hot worship of Jesus” – John Piper

“Our focus is the lost, the least, the weak, the broken, the marginalised; it’s more than just a meeting”

Key Points:

  • Coronavirus has caused mass disruption for all of us
  • We can’t escape it; it’s affected us all
  • It’s an attention grabbing disruption
  • God wants to speak to us in order to change us for His glory and our good!
  • He is demanding our attention
  • We spend much of our Christian life trying NOT to sin. That’s not gospel. Gospel is that Jesus has saved us and forgiven us. It’s time to live!
  • Rich Villodas says: What if at the end of history the question Jesus asks us isn’t ‘did you stop sinning’ but instead ‘did you start living?”
  • During this crisis, allow the disruption to change us, to start ‘living’.
  • Talk to God about where I am AT
  • Talk to God about where I am HEADING
  • Talk to God about what to LEAVE BEHIND
  • I want to start living. Life in all its fullness (see John 10:10).
  • Whilst our METHOD of church has changed, our mission hasn’t.
  • We can’t wait to gather again physically.
  • But that’s not the end game.
  • The end game is the white hot worship of Jesus (John Piper)
  • But not just us; also with our neighbours, our friends, our families.
  • Our focus is OUT, not just IN.
  • Keep going. God is working in the disruption (Romans 8:28).

Questions:

  • Where is my relationship with God heading? If I carry on living like I am now, what will it look like in 3 months time?
  • What part of my character and my life to I want to LEAVE BEHIND when ‘all this is over?’ How am I going to do that?
