How To Read The Bible – Part 1

Ephesians 2:10

It’s the best selling book in the world – ever! Christians claim it has the power to bring life to our lives! Some of it makes sense, some it doesn’t, and some of it is horrifying to read with our 21st century cultural perspectives. But The Bible still speaks today. Christians believe it is the word of God, and so if we want to hear what God is saying, we’ve got to read the Bible, and let The Bible read us.
If you’re struggling with the Bible – you’re not alone! A recent Bible Society survey found that 51% of christian millennials engage with the bible a few times a year – or less, 9% read the bible every day, and 13% look at the Bible a ‘few times’ a week. The stats are shocking – but as I read them, I am also comforted. It tells me that I’m not alone in my struggle with The Bible. But I’m also convinced. I’m convinced that as I give the Bible a chance to read me, as I give the Bible the time and patience and commitment it deserves, as I give God the Holy Spirit the opportunity to speak to me and challenge me as I read it with an open mind and heart – I am convinced that the Bible still has the power to change my life. God’s word is living and active and wants to change us from the inside out!
So our challenge is simple – give the Bible another chance. Ask God to fill you with a hunger for Him through His Word and believe that by faith, this time, the Bible is going to change your life!
