How To Read The Bible – Part 3

James 1:22-25

The Bible is the best-selling book of all time. And it really is a great book. But what makes the bible special, is that it’s ‘alive and powerful’ (Hebrews 4:12). That means that the way we interact with the bible has to be more than just reading it… What does that look like?

James 1:22-25 puts it like this… “put it into practice” (v25). It’s that simple. Every time we read the bible, we get the opportunity to ask the question; How can I put this to practice in my life?

As you read the bible, whether that be a verse or a chapter at a time, I encourage you to bring the words of the bible to life in your lifestyle, your choices, your actions, your words, your relationships. Wherever possible, ask God to reveal How you can put the powerful word of God into action?

If you’re new to the bible or if you’re brushing the dust off it for the first time in a while – congratulations. I pray that the bible would become more than just words on a page and would become alive in your life. There are fantastic resources out there to help you, from Apps, to Podcasts, to YouTube Channels, to Books, we list a few of our favourites at the bottom of these emails each week.

A great place to learn more is also in a Connect Group, where small groups of people get together online to talk about Sundays message, to share life with one another and chat about the bible together too. You can sign up to a Connect Group on our Connect Group Page.

My prayer is that you will say yes to giving the bible a go. And that as you read it, you’ll find opportunities to put it into practice, and that you’ll be transformed by life-giving truth that is the Word of God.

  • Being honest… How would you best describe your appetite for the bible?
  • Has there been a verse, character or story from the bible that has made a practical difference in your life?
  • Have you ever been faced with an opportunity to put what the Bible says into practice? How did you respond?
  • What resources have helped you to grow in your understanding of the bible?
  • What is one thing you will do this week to make the bible more than just words on a page?
