How To Take Up The Cause

Isaiah 1:17

I wonder how often we all get angered by an injustice, that no doubt breaks God’s heart, but how often do we follow up on it and take up the cause to bring about change?

I know there have been many times for me that this has been the case!

The story of Moses in Exodus 2, is a great example for us of an injustice and how Pharaoh’s daughter moved with compassion, takes up the cause of fostering and adoption.

There are many causes like Fostering and Adoption that are on our heart as a Church, other things like looking after widows through areas like Fairhavens Court, seeking racial harmony, helping addicts through The Lighthouse, looking out for vulnerable children and their families through Safe Families and Make Lunch (coming next year…) are just some of the other ways that we as a Church are seeking to take up the cause and do something to bring about change.

Isaiah gave us great wisdom for how to take up these causes:

Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight for the rights of widows.” (Isaiah 1:17)

The best way to learn how to take up the cause, is to do something about it, when we feel God is challenging us towards seeing change in different areas of injustice. It takes action to bring about change.

  • Breakdown the five areas of advice that Isaiah gives us (learn, seek, help, defend, fight) – what do each of these look like in our lives?
  • What injustice is God calling you to come against and play your part?

There’s always something we can do to demonstrate God’s love and saving power to the communities around us.
