2 Chronicles 1:1-12
As we head out of lockdown and into some kind of normality, there’s loads of things we think we need; a haircut, a holiday, a catch up with friends and family, some work, or some day trips out and about!
Today, what’s our greatest need? Let me suggest our greatest need is Jesus.
In 2 Chronicles 1, just after being appointed as new king of Israel, a young King Solomon was asked by God – ‘what do you want me to do for you?’. Solomon had the opportunity to tell God what his greatest need was. He could have asked for the world; but instead he asked for wisdom and knowledge (2 Chronicles 1:8). Solomon knew that in order to live, in order to reign, in order to serve God faithfully and effectively, he needed God in his corner. He asked for wisdom. His greatest need was God.
Today, as we follow Jesus, we can have a relationship with Jesus that leads us with that same wisdom – we can have God in our corner. God comes to us and gives us what we need, before we even ask. God sent Jesus, to give us life in all its fullness. We are right with God because of faith in Christ. There’s no more ‘getting God’, but really just ‘receiving’.
