On The Other Side

Numbers 13:6-9

I’m sure you will know what it’s like to face situations in life that can feel like an uphill struggle whether it be debt, heartbreak, loss, grief, ill-health, anxiety, loneliness, temptation… Often during these times we can feel like we will never see a day where we will see a change and it’s easy to lose sight of what life as God intended looks like. God has great plans for us (Psalm 40:5) plans for health, joy, freedom, community, friendships and fun.

We see in Numbers 13 how God sent 12 men to Canaan to explore the land. 10 of these men found Canaan to be a place that could be ok but the risks far outweighed the reward. But 2 faithful men, Caleb & Joshua, believed that although Canaan would have its risks, with God at their side they could defeat their obstacles and make it to the other side, where the land was beautiful, plentiful and fruitful and they could reap the rewards.

Can you see hope and promise beyond the situation you’re currently facing?

Could you dare to believe that if you could conquer this battle, great things await you?

Zechariah 4:7 reminds us of the potential within us because of the power of God, ‘Obstacles as great as mountains will fall at your feet’. When we shift our perspective from the PROBLEM to the PROMISE we gain a Godly vision of the great things God has in store for us.

Although PRAISE doesn’t always change our circumstances it does change our heart. Perhaps you could choose a verse that you repeat and declare over your situation. Here’s some suggestions of verses you can cling on to in difficult times.

Isaiah 41:10 – “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Psalm 62:1-2 – “My soul finds rest in God alone, my salvation comes from Him, He alone is my rock and my salvation”.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Psalm 23: – “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 – “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Questions:

  • What are some areas/things that feel like a giant blocking your way to God’s promise?
  • Take some time to choose a verse that you will use as your ‘Praise Anthem’. Write it in your phone or on a post it note and put it somewhere you will see often so you can learn it, internalise it and declare it.
  • Could you arrange to speak with a trusted friend and tell them about the area you’re struggling with and decide what practical steps you will take next to move closer to claiming victory over your situation.
