Praying Through Crisis

Matthew 6:5-8

There’s loads of things we’ll continue to do during this crisis; we’ll keep eating, we’ll keep drinking, we’ll keep going to work (or being at home, trying to work!!), we’ll keep watching TV etc.

I want to encourage us today to keep praying, even through crisis!

Jesus taught us how to pray. He said in Matthew 6:5-8:

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

The myth with prayer though is that it’s hard. However, its only as hard as we make it.

Jesus never said it was hard.

I think He encourages us here to make a start, keep it real, keep it simple, all the time knowing that God knows what we need before we ask him! What a promise!

  • Make a start. Don’t be put off by unanswered prayers. God has heard them. He is faithful
  • Keep it real. Get alone with God and pour out your heart; you can trust Him.
  • Keep it simple. Cut the BIG words you don’t understand – give Him you, your simple and specific requests. He’s listening.
