1 Peter 1:13
I started 2020 with a goal in mind, a dream to run 5k comfortably and happily. I worked hard towards the goal but when lockdown happened, that goal got put in the waiting room, and my running shoes got stored away. Whether due to situations beyond our control, the change of pace of life, as a result of decisions we have made, we often find certain areas of our life being placed on pause.
What aspect of your life has found itself on pause right now? Perhaps a change in financial situation has caused your giving to be paused. Maybe exhaustion and busyness has led to your daily devotional time with God taking a back seat. Whether it’s your relationships, marriage, serving, physical health, emotional health or any other aspect of your life that has found itself being shoved into the waiting room whilst you try to keep your head above water… what if God said its time to leave the waiting room?
1 Peter 1v13 (MSG) shows us how God wants us to “roll your sleeves up, get your mind in gear and get ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives”.
That sounds less like Waiting and more like Getting Ready. Let’s determine to stop waiting to go back, but instead get ready to move forward. We know that choosing to leave the waiting room and getting ready to start the race will come at a cost. It could cost you financially, it could cost your time, it might cost you some sleep, some humility, the guts to ask for help, it could cost your reputation. But choosing to make a move away from the waiting room propels us towards the race that God has set before us (Hebrews 12:1).
As we choose to say strip off anything that would seek to keep us in the waiting room (laziness, selfishness, pride, negativity, apathy, indifference), with our eyes fixed on Jesus we will move, step by step, day by day, choice by choice towards a greater tomorrow. Towards the hope and victory. Towards the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives.
